Description

I wrote this poem in the first lockdown, when we really wondered if this was the end.

The End Of Times

Mgg and Ai

Dad was shaking his head down the phone,
Like everyone now he keeps repeating, ‘Who knows?’
I told him, make sure you keep our mum inside,
For if it gets into her, she’ll be gone.

Then later that day Alf called
But in his smiling arms there was a frown
He said, you know Mike, I have a terrible feeling,
That maybe this

is the end of our times.
We woke up again but we had nothing to do,
That maybe this
is the end of our times.

We woke up again but we had nothing to do,
So we had some warm fun, not once but twice.
But instead of recording a record third time,
You lay against me, reading your phone.

You were scrolling through more impossible news,
Until despite the morning
that was still kissing you,

you said, you know Mike,
I have a terrible feeling,
That this maybe the end of our times.

Hey God are you still there?
Can’t you see in the houses we’ve built without you,
That we’re all getting back on our knees?
Oh Lord, do you think you could let this one pass?

But God’s reply was a chopper overhead
patrolling the streets with a didactic tune,
And it was clear to us, what its lyrics were asking,
because my kids were asking it too

You know Dad,
I have a terrible feeling
That maybe this is the end of our times.
You know Dad,
I have a terrible feeling
That maybe this is the end of our times.

But regardless, we are still holding on.

Despite death being due ,
together we glow .
It left me wondering if somewhere up there,
The Angels were peering through
a telescope at us,
“Well I don’t know if they know they are doomed?
But from up here they look beautiful,

it’s like I’m looking down on a garden of Eden,
full of souls constructed from stars.
it’s like I’m looking down on a garden of Eden,
full of souls constructed from stars.
full of souls constructed from stars.
it’s like I’m looking down on a garden of Eden,
full of souls constructed from stars.
